NEHC Women - Week 9

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) announced its weekly awards for games played through Sunday, January 8th. Castleton University teammates Meg Aiken (Sherwood, P.E.I) and Kristen DiCicco (Lowell, Mass.) took home Player and Goaltender of the week honors, respectively. Elmira College's Emma Bradbury (Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia) was selected as the Rookie of the Week.

Player of the Week

Meg Aiken – Castleton University
(Freshman, Forward – Sherwood, P.E.I.)

Aiken experienced a breakout weekend for the Spartans. In the 3-2 win against UMass Boston to jump ahead of the Beacons in league standings, Aiken went 10-for-13 on faceoffs. After logging just one goal coming into Saturday's contest at JWU, Aiken scored a hat trick on four shots, dishing out an assist as well for a four-point outing with nine faceoff wins in the 5-0 victory over the Wildcats. Aiken became the third freshman in program history to log a hat trick, the first since the 2004-05 season.

Goaltender of the Week

Kristen DiCicco – Castleton University
(Junior, Goaltender – Lowell, Mass.)

DiCicco started all three contests this week, posting a 2-0-1 record with both wins coming in NEHC play. After halting Lake Forest's three-game win streak with a 2-2 tie in which she stopped 31 shots, DiCicco made a season-high 41 saves in the Spartans' 3-2 win over UMass Boston. The Lowell, Mass. native posted her second shutout of the season on Saturday, denying all 19 attempts in the 5-0 victory against Johnson & Wales.

Rookie of the Week

Emma Bradbury – Elmira College
(Freshman, Forward – Hatchet Lake, Nova Scotia)

Bradbury netted a pair of game-winning goals as No. 10 Elmira defeated No. 7 Norwich 3-2 on Friday. Bradbury netted the eventual game-winner in the third period on Friday to break a 2-2 tie against the Cadets. The next day, Bradbury opened the scoring against NEC on Saturday as Elmira would go on to record a 4-0 victory.

Truppi added an empty-netter late in the third to seal the win and push her season goal total to a team-leading six.
