NEHC Men - Week 6 Release
MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) announced its weekly awards for games played through Sunday, December 4th. Norwich's Philip Elgstam (Stockholm, Sweden) was tabbed Player of the Week, while Elmira teammates Kyle Curtain (St. George, Ontario.) and Kerfalla Toure (Montreal, Quebec.) were selected as Goaltender and Rookie of the Week, respectively.
Player of the Week
Philip Elgstam - Norwich University
(Senior, Forward - Stockholm, Sweden)
Elgstam was instrumental in Norwich's victory over Southern Maine with two goals and two assists including the game winner in the last minute of the first. He also led the Cadets in shots the previous night in a tight 1-1 OT battle with No. 6 Babson College.
Goaltender of the Week
Kyle Curtin - Elmira College
(Freshman, Goaltender - St. George, Ontario)
In two games this week, Curtin was able to improve to 5-1 between the pipes on the season after helping the Soaring Eagles pick up a pair of conference wins over #15 Skidmore and Castleton. On Friday, Curtin allowed just one goal while making 22 saves in Elmira's 4-1 win over the Thoroughbreds before recording a clean sheet in their 8-0 win over Castleton where he made 31 saves. For the week, Curtin made 53 saves for a GAA of 0.50.
Rookie of the Week
Kerfalla Toure - Elmira College
(Freshman, Forward - Montreal, Quebec)
In two games, Toure was able to help the Soaring Eagles, being involved on nearly each goal scored while taking a shift. On Friday, Toure would be credited with an assist against #15 Skidmore before scoring one goal and having a pair of assists on Saturday against Castleton. On the season, Toure has quickly produced 10 points for Elmira in just nine games.
Honor Roll
Chance Gorman - Elmira College
(Junior, Forward - Flemington, N.J.)
In two games this week, Gorman was able to begin adding to his point total as the junior notched three in its two contests against #15 Skidmore and Castleton. Against Castleton on Saturday, Gorman tallied two goals and one assist.
Jonah Alexander - Hobart College
(Junior, Forward - Toronto, Ontario)
Alexander had three points in a 2-0-0 week for the Statesmen. On Friday, he had an assist against Castleton. The next day, Alexander scored a pair of goals in Hobart's win over No. 15 Skidmore. His first goal of the game, a power-play goal, proved to be the game-winning tally. Alexander leads the team with 15 points on six goals and nine assists. He has at least one point each game this season.
Damon Beaver - Hobart College
(Freshman, Goaltender - Whitby, Ontario)
Beaver posted his third consecutive shutout on Saturday. He stopped all 17 shots he faced as Hobart beat No. 15 Skidmore 4-0. Beaver is the first Hobart goalie to post three consecutive shutouts. He has not allowed a goal in the last 194:31 minutes. Beaver is 5-0-0 on the season with a 0.60 GAA and a .975 save percentage.
Manny Cabral - New England College
(Freshman, Forward - Providence, R.I.)
Cabral scored one goal with two assists for the 'Grims this week, both NEC wins. Cabral's goal 8:37 into the third against Babson on Saturday tied the game and set his team up for the victory against the sixth-ranked team in the nation.
