NEHC Men - Week 13 Release
MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) announced its weekly awards for games played through Sunday, February 5th. UMass Boston teammates Andy Walker (Detroit, Mich.) and Jazz Krivtsov (Santa Clara, Calif.) were selected as Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively. Hobart College’s Damon Beaver (Whitby, Ont.) garnered Goaltender of the Week honors.
Player of the Week
Andy Walker – UMass Boston
(Senior, Forward – Detroit, Mich.)
Walker had a stellar weekend for UMass Boston in their 2-0-0 weekend against Johnson and Wales University as part of their home-and-home series. The forward recorded four goals, including a hat trick on Saturday afternoon for the Beacons who outscored the Wildcats 11-4 during the weekend in which they won 5-1 and 6-3.
Goaltender of the Week
Damon Beaver – Hobart College
(Freshman, Goaltender – Whitby, Ont.)
Beaver was 1-0-0 in goal last week for the Statesmen. On Friday night he stopped all 24 shots he faced as he recorded his sixth shutout of the season. He made nine saves in each of the first two periods. Beaver is 11-2-0 overall with a 1.02 GAA and a .955 save percentage. He leads the NEHC in GAA and save percentage.
Rookie of the Week
Jazz Krivtsov – UMass Boston
(Freshman, Forward – Santa Clara, Calif.)
Krivtsov notched three assists and three points for UMass Boston in their home-and-home series against Johnson and Wales over the weekend. Krivtsov notched two assists on the first two Beacon goals on Friday night before tacking on the first assist on the goal by junior defender Gino Carabelli in the second period on Saturday afternoon. UMass Boston swept the home-and-home series with 5-1 and 6-3 victories over the Wildcats this weekend.
Honor Roll
Jonah Alexander – Hobart College
(Junior, Forward – Toronto, Ont.)
Alexander had three points on two goals and an assist last week for the Statesmen. He had an assist in Hobart's victory over Skidmore. Alexander scored a pair of goals, including a shorthanded goal in Hobart's win over Castleton on Saturday. He leads the team with 13 goals and is second with 27 points.
Chance Gorman – Elmira College
(Junior, Forward – Flemington, N.J.)
Gorman extended his goal-scoring streak to five straight games after recording three goals over the weekend for the Soaring Eagles. Gorman netted a power play goal on Friday against Castleton and added two goals in a 5-2 victory on Saturday against Skidmore. Gorman has 10 goals in his last five games and currently leads the NEHC with 17 goals this season.
Drennan Atherton – Norwich University
(Senior, Goaltender – Winter Haven, Fla.)
In his lone appearance of the week, Atherton was spectacular against Babson, not allowing a goal until 17:53 of the 3rd period, leading his team to a big 2-1 conference victory. He finished the day with 31 saves and a .969 SV%.
Andrew Kormos – New England College
(Graduate, Goaltender – Milford, Mich.)
Playing in the final home game of his storied career, Kormos was dominant in NEC's 3-1 win over Southern Maine on Saturday, stopping 34 of 35 shots for a .971 save percentage. For the season, Kormos is third in the conference in save percentage and fourth in the NEHC in total saves.
