Cadets Claim Third Straight NEHC Crown

MARSHFIELD, Mass. Norwich University defeated Castleton University 6-0 to earn their ninth overall and third straight New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Championship. The victory also cemented their spot in the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament as they earned the league's automatic-qualification bid.

Sophomore defender Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after notching four assists in the championship.

Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) recorded a goal and two assists and back-to-back NEHC Player of the Year Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.) notched two goals to round out the offensive leaders for Norwich.

Rylie Wills (Sioux Lookout, Ont.) led the way for the Spartans, stopping 51 shots in net, the third-highest single-game total of her career. She turned away all 15 shots she faced in the opening period before stopping 16 shots in the second period and another 20 in the third.

Robyn Foley (Goulds, Newfoundland and Labrador) opened the scoring halfway through the second period as she notched a power play tally off assists from Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alta.) and Rossini.

Later that period the Cadets offense clicked, scoring two goals in less than 20 seconds with Labbe and Maddi Blauth (Pennington, N.J.) finding the back of the net to put Norwich on top 3-0 heading into the third period.

Just over halfway through the third period Rossini recorded an unassisted goal to stretch the Cadets lead to four. Then it was Conway's turn as she posted two goals of her own at even strength to round out the scoring for Norwich.

Norwich will await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday morning at 10:00am to learn their matchup for the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
