Norwich and Castleton To Square Off in NEHC Championship Tilt

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - Top seeded Norwich University will play host of the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Championship for the ninth straight year as they welcome in-state rival Castleton University.

The Cadets will host the Spartans on Saturday, March 2 in the NEHC Championship game with the winner earning the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. This marks the 11th straight appearance in the championship game for Norwich and third overall for Castleton.

University of Massachusetts Boston gave Norwich all they could handle in the semifinals but ultimately the Cadets prevailed 3-2. In a back-and-forth battle Brynn Wopperer (Amherst, N.Y.) recorded an unassisted goal and Sophie McGovern (Hermantown, Minn.) tallied two goals of her own, including the game winner halfway through the third period, to seal the victory for Norwich.

In the other semifinal clash of the weekend Castleton took down Johnson & Wales University 4-3. In a back-and-forth battle the Spartans saw senior leadership prevail as Jade Remillard (Fairfield, Vt.), Jocelyn Forrest (Prince George, B.C.) and Aimee Briand (Barrington, N.H.) factored into every goal for Castleton. The trio combined for seven points with Remillard leading the way with two goals and one assist.

Saturday marks the 29th all-time meeting between Norwich and Castleton in women's ice hockey. Norwich holds a 25-1-2 lead in the all-time series with the Spartans. Norwich is 1-0-1 vs. Castleton this year, winning 8-0 at home and then tying Castleton 3-3 on the road in January.
