#2 UMass Boston at #1 Norwich – 3pm
MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The top two seeds in Norwich University and University of Massachusetts Boston battled through the semifinal round to advance to the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) championship game.
Norwich will host UMass Boston on Saturday, March 3 in the NEHC Championship game with the winner earning the league's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division III Women's Ice Hockey Tournament. This marks the second time in the last two seasons these teams will square off in the Championship bout, with the Beacons winning the list title fight as they upset Norwich 2-0 in the 2016 final.
The top-seeded Cadets defeated Plymouth State University 4-1 to advance to their 10th straight conference championship tilt. Plymouth battled Norwich as the scored stood at 2-1 in favor of Norwich after two periods of action. Emelie Lindqvist (Gulleråsen, Sweden) kept the Panthers within striking distance, posting 35 saves after 40 minutes of play but the Norwich offense proved too much to handle.
Adrieana Rossini (Malden, Mass.) scored two goals for Norwich, including the ultimate game winner, while Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alta.) and NEHC Player of the Year, Amanda Conway (Methuen, Mass.), each added insurance tallies to propel Norwich into the championship game.
UMass Boston used two first-period goals from Alli Bianchini (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and Bri Colucci (Lancaster, N.Y.) to defeat Castleton University, 2-1, in the other semifinal matchup. Beacons' goaltender Rachel Myette (Duxbury, Mass.) added 17 saves to preserve the win for the Beacons.
Norwich holds the advantage from the regular season, defeating UMass Boston twice by the scores of 5-3 and 7-0.
