MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, December 10. A trio of Norwich University Cadets swept the weekly awards in Alyssa Hulst (Scarborough, Maine), Laurie King (Waddington, N.Y.) and Samantha Benoit (Bow, N.H.) as each was named Player, Goaltender and Rookie of the Week respectively.
Alyssa Hulst - Norwich University
(Sophomore, Forward– Scarborough, Maine)
Hulst recorded two goals on the weekend for Norwich to lead the No. 1 ranked Cadets to a pair of wins over nonconference opponents. She opened the scoring halfway through the first period on Wednesday, recording the eventual game-winner vs. Amherst. The sophomore forward also notched a goal on Sunday as Norwich rallied to defeat the No. 8/9 ranked Camels of Conn. College.
Laurie King - Norwich University
(Senior, Goaltender – Waddington, N.Y.)
King made 39 saves on 41 shots to backstop Norwich to two crucial non-conference wins over Amherst and No. 8/9 Conn. College on the week. She stopped all 19 shots she faced in a 2-0 win over Amherst to record her 18th career shutout and become the NU all-time career shutouts leader. She also made 22 saves on 24 shots to turn away Conn. College in a 4-2 win on Sunday and help Norwich go unbeaten into the holiday break for the first time in program history.
Samantha Benoit – Norwich University
(Freshman, Defense, Bow, N.H.)
Benoit recorded two assists to help lead No. 1-ranked Norwich to a 4-2 win over No. 8/9 ranked Conn. College on Sunday. She assisted on the game-winning goal to break a 2-2 tie in the third period. Benoit finished as a +2 on the week and ranks second on the team with a +20 plus-minus rating on the season.
Honor Roll
Emelie Lindqvist – Plymouth State University
(Junior, Goaltender – Gullerasen, Sweden)
Lindqvist turned aside 46 shots, topping the 40-save plateau for the third time this season, in a 2-0 loss to D-II Franklin Pierce on Friday. She held the Ravens off the board for the first 55 minutes, before they were finally able to break through with a power play goal at the 15:14 mark of the third period.
