NEHC Announces Women's Major Awards And All-Conference Teams

MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's division announced the recipients of the league's major award winners, All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams as selected by the league's fourteen coaches.

Saint Anselm College's Alex Starzyk (Enfield, Conn.) was named the NEHC Player of the Year after her notable junior campaign. Starzyk led the NEHC in point scoring (27) and goal scoring (16). Her 13 power play points (5 goals, 8 assists) were also a league high.

Jess Cameron (Mt. Mellick, P.E.I.) of Castleton University earned Goaltender of the Year honors. Her .945 save percentage in 23 overall games played is good for tenth in all of Division III while her 1345:30 minutes played ranks sixth nationally. She surrendered 28 goals in league play, posting 1.96 goals against average.

Bryn Labbe (Calgary, Alta.) of Norwich University took home Rookie of the Year accolades. Labbe ranked second in the NEHC in freshman scoring, posting 14 points on 11 goals and three assists. She also led the league with three short-handed goals, which is also best for second nationally.

After leading University of New England to their highest win total in program history (14) and first home postseason game, David Venditti was named Coach of the Year by his peers. This marked Venditti's third season with the Nor'easters after taking over the program in the fall of 2013.

Joining Cameron on the first-team is Spartan teammate Taylor Steadman (Hartford, Vt.) who led her team with 19 overall points. Martha Findley (Duxbury, Mass.) joined Starzyk as a defender on the first-team after finishing second in the conference in defenseman scoring.

Rounding out the first-team is Salve Regina University's Danielle Phalon (Stoneham, Mass.) who led the Seahawks with 25 points on 17 goals and eight assists. Isabela Bagi (Branford, Conn.) of College of the Holy Cross was selected as a first-team defender after leading the league in defenseman scoring with 24 points. Her 31 points overall rank her second amongst the NEHC in overall statistics.

Regular season champions, Norwich University, led the league with seven selections to the All-Conference and All-Rookie teams.
