Women's Weekly Release



MARSHFIELD, Mass. The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's weekly awards were announced for play through Sunday, January 17. Aimee Briand (Barrington, N.H.) and Jess Cameron (Mt. Mellick, P.E.I.) of Castleton University were named Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively. Saint Anselm College's Sara McNamara (Danbury, Conn.) earned Rookie of the Week honors.

Player of the Week
Aimee Briand Castleton University
(Freshman, Forward Barrington, N.H.)

player Briand was a key piece of the Spartan offense on the week, having a hand in four out of the team's five goals while helping Castleton to a pair of victories. The freshman finished the weekend with two goals and two assists, while also winning 56% of her face-offs on Saturday. In a 4-1 win on Friday Plymouth State, Briand recorded two goals and one assist. On Saturday, Briand had an assist on the only goal of the game in a 1-0 win over ninth-ranked Norwich. The victory over the Cadets was the first in program history and was the team's second win over a ranked opponent this season.

Goaltender of the Week
Jess Cameron Castleton University
(Senior, Goaltender Mt. Mellick, P.E.I.)

player Cameron was phenomenal between the pipes once again for the Spartans, picking up her 11th and 12th victories of the season in an undefeated week for Castleton. On Friday night, the senior allowed just one goal at Plymouth State. On Saturday, Cameron recorded one of her best performances of the season by posting a 39-save shutout of No. 9 Norwich en route to a 1-0 victory. Cameron finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, 0.50 goals-against average, and a .981 save percentage.

Rookie of the Week
Sara McNamara Saint Anselm College
(Freshman, Forward Danbury, Conn.)

player McNamara helped lead the Hawks to a 1-1-0 mark in this weekend's games. The freshman had an assist in a 3-2 setback to Norwich on Friday night, and she followed that up with a goal and an assist in a 9-0 shutout of Plymouth State on Saturday. For the week, McNamara was a +4 on the ice.



Honor Roll

Lizzie Aveson University of Massachusetts Boston
(Junior, Forward West Covina, Calif.)
The junior forward recorded four goals and one assist for five points on the weekend. She tallied her first career hat trick and added an assist in UMB's 5-2 win over New England College on Friday. Aveson then added a goal in Saturday's win over Saint Michael's College to cap-off a 2-0-0 weekend for the Beacons.

Alex Brolsma Franklin Pierce University
(Sophomore, Forward Bloomington, Minn.)
Brolsma tallied three goals and two assists in a 3-0-0 week for the Ravens. The sophomore forward scored twice in Tuesday night's win over Becker College and had a goal and two assists in Saturday's win at Nichols College.

Erin Joyce Norwich University
(Sophomore, Forward Manchester, N.H.)
Playing in her hometown of Manchester, N.H., Erin Joyce stepped up in a big way, scoring two goals to lead Norwich to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Saint Anselm on Friday. Joyce scored the game-winning goal at 10:33 of the third period to hand Saint Anselm its first league loss and snap a seven-game winning streak.

Alex Starzyk Saint Anselm College
(Junior, Forward Enfield, Conn.)
Starzyk helped lead the Hawks to a 1-1-0 mark on the weekend. Starzyk had a goal and an assist in a 3-2 setback to Norwich, and she followed that up with two more tallies and another assist in a 9-0 win over Plymouth State. For the weekend, Starzyk was a +5 on the ice.

Sydney Helmbrecht University of New England
(Junior Goaltender Grand Rapids, Minn.)
Helmbrecht posted 99 saves against seven goals (with a shutout) over 184:47 of ice time in a 2-0-1 road week for the Nor'easters. She made 41 saves as UNE rallied twice to tie (3-3) at Colby College, then turned away 27 shots to blank Salve Regina University (2-0), before finishing with 31 saves as UNE never trailed in a 5-4 win at Manhattanville College.

Celeste Robert Norwich University
(Junior, Goaltender Rouyn-Noranda, Que.)
Robert made 31 saves to backstop Norwich to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Saint Anselm, handing the Hawks their first league loss of the season. The Cadets were outshot 33-14 in the game, but Robert was magnificent to pick up her fifth victory of the season.
