MARSHFIELD, Mass. – Sam Pion of Castleton University and Danielle Phalon of Salve Regina University were named to the D3Hockey.com Team of the Week for their play from November 9 through November 15. Pion was named to the first team as a defender while Phalon was recognized as a second team forward. Pion and Phalon were named the New England Hockey Conference's Co-Players of the Week on Monday.
Pion had a stellar week for the Spartans, scoring four goals in the span of two wins for Castleton. On Friday evening against Franklin Pierce, Pion scored a pair of goals, including the game winner, in a 3-2 win. On Saturday, the senior came back with another two-goal game, helping the Spartans to an 8-0 win over Nichols.
Phalon registered five points in two victories for the Seahawks. In Friday's 5-1 win over conference foe Manhattanville, Phalon netted two goals and added an assist. She followed that performance up with a goal and an assist vs. New England College as the Seahawks registered their third shutout on the season.
The D3Hockey.com Team of the Week is a new initiative from d3hockey.com that recognizes the top performances across the nation in Division III women's hockey. Institutional and conference sports information directors submit nominations for recognition. A selection committee then reviews the nominations and selects an elite group of six forwards, four defenders and two goaltenders split into first and second team honors.
