INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) institutions in Norwich University, Hobart College and University Massachusetts Boston earned spots in the 2019 NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament.
Norwich earned the NEHC's automatic-qualification after defeating Hobart 2-1 in Saturday's championship game. Hobart and UMass Boston were awarded Pool C berths after posting impressive resumes for consideration to the field.
The Cadets received a first-round bye and will await the winner between Trinity College and University of New England in a quarterfinal matchup at Kreitzberg Arena on Saturday, march 16. Norwich will be making their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance and will need three victories to secure their fifth NCAA Division III National Championship.
Hobart received one of the four at-large bids to the Championship and will play host to Plymouth State University in the opening round on Saturday, March 9. The Statesmen will be making their ninth overall and fifth straight appearance in the NCAA postseason. The winner will advance to the quarterfinals to face Oswego State next Saturday.
UMass Boston received the final at-large bid, and first in program history, to the tournament despite being idle last weekend. The Beacons will host Manhattanville College on Saturday at 7pm. The game marks the first-ever scheduled home NCAA Tournament game in school history. This marks the program's second appearance in the postseason tournament with their last coming in 2016 as they made it through to the final four. The winner of the matchup will square off against SUNY Geneseo in the quarterfinals.
