Cadets Win 13th Overall NEHC Title

MARSHFIELD, Mass. - Norwich University defeated Hobart College, 2-1 to earn their 13th overall New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) Championship. The victory also cemented their spot in the NCAA Division III Men's Ice Hockey Tournament as they earned the league's automatic-qualification bid.

Tom Aubrun (Chamonix, France) was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament after recording 29 saves for the win in net.

Hobart's Mike Faulkner (Bronx, N.Y.) opened the scoring as his power play tally from Jonas Topual (Vcelna, Czech Republic) and Matt Pizzo (Thorold, Ont.) put the Statesmen on top 1-0 in the first period.

Norwich battled, drawing two power play opportunities that were thwarted by Hobart. Then, on their third advantage Jordan Hall (Anchorage, Alaska) went coast-to-coast to send home the unassisted goal to tie the game at one apiece.

Both goaltenders impressed through two periods of play, each coming up with key saves and several at point blank range. Hobart's first year netminder Liam Lascelle (Cornwall, Ont.) notched 23 saves while his counterpart in Aubrun recorded 18 saves for Norwich entering the third.

The Cadets broke through with just under four minutes played in the third period. Felix Brassard (St. Jean-sur-Richelieu) beat Lascelle high glove side to give Norwich the 2-1 lead. The score would hold thanks to key defense from the Cadets and stingy netminding from Aubrun.

Both teams will await the NCAA Selection Show on Monday morning at 10:30am to learn their fate in the NCAA Tournament.
