MARSHFIELD, Mass. – After the top four teams advanced through the quarterfinal round of the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's postseason tournament, the stage is set for semifinal action.
The league's semifinal rounds will take place at the campuses of the higher seed this coming Saturday, February 27. Number one seed, University of Massachusetts Boston will square off against the number four seed University of New England while number two Babson College will go toe to toe against Norwich University.
The first semifinal boasts the two highest scoring offenses in the league. The Beacons are averaging 4.31 goals/game while the Nor'easters follow at 3.85 goals/game. UMass Boston boasts the three top scorers in the NEHC in Matt Lemire (42 points), Colin Larkin (34 points) and Frankie DeAugustine (32 points).
UNE will counter that attack with linemates and brothers; Brady and Trevor Fleurent who rank sixth and seventh in the NEHC with 28 and 27 points respectively.
The other semifinal matchup features familiar foes Babson and Norwich, who will square off for the 68th time in series history. The Cadets hold the series advantage 38-23-6, which includes a split of the season series this year.
Babson will look to NEHC Player and Goaltender of the Year, Jamie Murray to bolster the Beavers' defense and shutdown a powerful Norwich attack. Kevin Salvucci (26 points) and William Pelletier (18 points in seven games) pace the Cadets as they eye their seventh straight trip to the league championship game.
Both semifinals are scheduled to begin at 7:00pm with the winners advancing on to player each other in the NEHC Championship scheduled for March 5.
