Men's Weekly Release



MARSHFIELD, Mass. – The New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) men's weekly awards were announced for games through Sunday, January 31. The duo of Will Laking (Orillia, Ont.) and Ryan Mulder (Ottawa, Ont.) of Castleton University were named the Player and Goaltender of the Week respectively. Babson College's Matt Brazel (Hingham, Mass.) and Saint Michael's College's Sam D'Antuono (Hingham, Mass.) were recognized as Co-Rookies of the Week.

Player of the Week
Will Laking – Castleton University
(Senior, Forward – Orillia, Ont.)

player Laking delivered a five-point week to lead the Spartans to conference victories over #14 Norwich and Saint Michael's. In Friday's win over the Cadets Laking assisted on the game-tying and game-winning goals. He followed that performance with an assist and two goals (including a shorthanded tally and the eventual game-winner) against Saint Michael's.

Goaltender of the Week
Ryan Mulder – Castleton University
(Sophomore, Goaltender – Ottawa, Ont.)

player Mulder continued his solid play this weekend with a combined 57 saves in two games to help the Spartans knock off No. 14 Norwich and St. Michael's. The sophomore netminder recorded 23 saves while only surrendering a goal against nationally-ranked Norwich on Friday. He followed that with a 34-save performance (including 16 in the third period) against the Purple Knights.

Co-Rookies of the Week
Matt Brazel - Babson College
(Freshman, Forward – Hingham, Mass.)

player Brazel produced two goals and three assists for five points as Babson extended its winning streak to four games with victories over the University of New England and Southern Maine. The first-year forward assisted on the Beavers' first two goals and then scored early in the second period for the first three-point game of his career in Friday's 4-3 win over the Nor'easters. On Saturday, he recorded a first-period assist and scored in the second period as part of a 5-0 victory over the Huskies.

Sam D'Antuono – Saint Michael's College
(Freshman, Forward – Hingham, Mass.)

player D'Antuono had two goals and four assists, went plus-1 and won 22 faceoffs during a 2-1 week. In a 4-2 win over Daniel Webster on Tuesday, he dished out two assists while going 9-for-20 on faceoffs before scoring twice in a 3-1 win at Skidmore on Friday. On Saturday at Castleton, he assisted on both goals in a 3-2 loss while winning 13 draws.



Honor Roll

Kevin Altidor – Saint Michael's College
(Senior, Forward – Montreal, Que.)
Altidor had four goals and one assist while scoring on 44.4% of his shots during a 2-1 week. In a 4-2 win over Daniel Webster on Tuesday, Altidor notched two goals and an assist and went 3-of-5 on draws before netting the eventual game-winner on his only shot in a 3-1 victory at Skidmore on Friday. In a 3-2 loss to Castleton on Saturday, he scored with 21 seconds left to draw Saint Michael's within a goal of the Spartans.

Chris Johnson – Saint Michael's College
(Freshman, Goaltender – Duxbury, Mass.)
Johnson turned in a 2.04 GAA and a .939 save percentage in a 2-1 week, averaging 30.7 saves in each contest. He allowed two of his six goals on power plays, and another on a shorthanded breakaway. Johnson made 26 stops in a 4-2 win over Daniel Webster on Tuesday before turning aside 35 shots in a 3-1 win at Skidmore on Friday, including 16 in the third period. In that game, he helped kill off all five power plays for the Thoroughbreds. In a 3-2 loss at Castleton on Saturday, Johnson had 31 stops.

Fabio Kläy – Castleton University
(Freshman, Forward – Langnau, Switzerland)
Kläy was a key contributor for the Spartans in their 3-1 victory over #14 Norwich University. The freshman forward notched the eventual game-winner less than a minute into the third period before adding an empty-net tally to secure the win for Castleton.
